Beeching's Axe

On this day, 56 years ago, Dr Beeching wielded his evil axe on our wonderful railways. Strong armed by a corrupt government (who's transport minister had a financial interest in road building) Beeching closed over 2,000 stations and 4,000 miles of track. Today's chaos on the roads is a testament to greed and corruption yet again.
