150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad

150 years ago today, the Transcontinental Railroad in America was completed. The plan was to link the east to the west coasts of this giant country. Tens of thousands of Chinese laborers lived and died building almost 3,000 miles of track. They blasted through granite , dug tunnels and build bridges to complete the project. The Union Pacific and Central Pacific met at Promontory Summit, Utah on May 10 1869. The project began in 1863 and took six years to complete. A masterpiece of engineering.

Many thanks,

The LRD Team
